The Story Behind The Door: Fictional reverse poem

They are wrong.
Our family is perfect,
Long before people can say
There is a problem.
Nobody will admit that
They have it worse.

Shattered glass and dented walls
That’s not here to show
There is something
Making the house more welcoming
There’s no visible violence

Doors slam shut
At the end of the day
That’s not what we do
Happy smiles and safety
Is what we are.

Being rude and violent
It’s completely out of character
We are nice. But
They let some qualities slip.
And things need to change.

Our family seems damaged
Some people will say
That is a lie.
This is not the truth,
Society can see.

I thought I’d bite the bullet and give my blog some rhythm. This talks about the mask we place as society on topics such as domestic violence and the perception of ‘togetherness’ within families and relationships. The idea to write this came after watching one of many police related programmes.

I’ve not written a poem since, well, the last time I was required to for educational purposes. Let alone attempting to write a reverse poem.
